WCAR Bulls
Wolf Creek Plainsman ~ AAA reg #16455884
February 1, 2024: A total of 64 bulls (50 yearlings + 14 two-yr-olds) will be offered for sale during 2024. The bulls' 205-day weights averaged 632 lb.. Our calves are not creep fed. Their weaning weights reflect their growth ability and the ability of their dams to rear them on native grass without supplemental feed. The average $MAT and EN of the bulls rank high in the Angus breed and reflect both the high maternal value (calving ease, progeny weaning weight, milk production, fertility, docility, and mature size) as well as the easy-keeping nature expected of the bulls' daughters. Furthermore, over 34% of the bulls descend from dams and/or granddams that have been designated "Pathfinder" cows by the American Angus Association for consistently recording the superior progeny weaning weights and fertility (breed back). Nationally, less than 1/2 of 1% of eligible registered Angus cows received the Pathfinder designation in 2023. Notably, of the eligible dams currently in the Wolf Creek herd, over 20% have attained Pathfinder status. We believe the production and reproductive efficiency evident in the moderate framed, functional cow herd is one of our breeding program's greatest strengths that can be passed on to your herd by retaining heifers sired by Wolf Creek Angus Ranch bulls. We'd enjoy the opportunity to show you our cow herd and demonstrate these bred-in, economically important benefits.
Since weaning, the bulls have been fed a high roughage ration, producing a weaning to yearling ADG of 2.9 lb. and an average weight of 1,096 lb. at a year of age. We don't push the bulls for extreme weight gains but instead target the condition we feel the bulls should be in as they're turned out for the breeding season. Consequently, they will require no additional "conditioning" or "hardening" period prior to seeing service under range conditions.
Based on actual birth weights, birth weight EPDs and calving ease EPDs, over 76% of the bulls are suitable for use on virgin heifers. In fact, over 46% of those offered for sale have a negative EPD for birth weight coupled with a high calving ease score and a low actual birth weight, and all but two were born unassisted. Additionally, all of the bulls are by sires proven for not only progeny calving ease, maternal strengths, and growth performance but also carcass merit. All of the bulls have interim carcass EPDs. All have positive EPDs for marbling, with 64% exceeding the average of the Angus breed, and all have positive EPDs for rib eye area, with 53% over breed average, evidencing traits for both premium-earning carcass quality as well as superior muscling. Further, 39% meet the Certified Angus Beef (CAB) Program's benchmarks, predicting progeny of the bulls will be capable of earning premiums from packing plants when sold on quality beef grids. We'd be glad to visit further with you about how you can incorporate these increasingly important traits into your herd now and reap the benefits for years to come.
For the past 15 years, we have used DNA profiling on all the bulls, and we were one of the very first seedstock breeders in the nation to do so! As a result, Wolf Creek Angus Ranch bulls have "Genomically Enhanced" (GE) EPDs and Value Index Data with much higher accuracy and predictability than most young bulls. The DNA profiles generate EPD accuracy values of approximately .40 vs. the typical .15 for yearling bulls. In fact, GE-EPDs are as accurate as if the bulls have already sired a calf crop! This means your selections can be made with greater confidence that calves sired by Wolf Creek bulls will perform as the data predicts!
We offer free delivery anywhere in Kansas and Nebraska, and as an additional service, we are willing to board any bulls you select now until June 1, 2024, at no charge. We also offer volume discounts to any buyer of two or more bulls.
The bulls will be vaccinated (with BoviShield Gold FP5 + VL5 HB) and be range-ready upon delivery to you. Each of the bulls has undergone a breeding soundness exam, including semen evaluation and scrotal circumference measurement, and all of the two-year-old bulls will be tested/guaranteed free of trichomoniasis (all performed by a licensed veterinarian). Each buyer will be provided with a certificate documenting results of the bull's exams as well as his lifetime vaccination record. Every bull sells with a fertility guarantee and our unconditional guarantee of buyer satisfaction.
Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions about the bulls or if we can be of help as you make your selections by further explaining the use of EPDs or the performance information listed on the bulls.
Thank you for your interest in this year's Wolf Creek Angus Ranch bull offering. We hope to see you at the ranch sometime soon.
